John Lyon’s Charity awards grants to a wide variety of projects and initiatives that support children and young people. These Programme Areas reflect the variety of ways in which organisations seek to help children and young people either by providing them with opportunities or seeking to address specific needs directly.
Projects that provide opportunities for children and young people to participate in Arts activities are always high on the Charity’s agenda. These should be of high quality and seek to engage under-represented groups.
We seek to help parents give their children the best start in life by supporting a variety of projects that help develop parenting skills, support to those in need and prevent families from reaching crisis point.
As an educational foundation, Education & Learning is always at the heart of what we do. We seek to support organisations that help raise the attainment of children and young people and encourage parental engagement in children’s learning.
The emotional health of young people is vitally important but often neglected by statutory providers. We seek to support projects that help young people most in need of support, frequently delivered in school settings.
We support projects that provide opportunities for children and young people with disabilities to have the same experiences as their peers and to help them become more independent and have the ability to make their own decisions.
We aim to support organisations that encourage participation in sport, nurture talent and provide access to high quality services and equipment. We also support projects that enable young people to gain coaching qualifications.
Frequently young people leave school without the necessary skills to enter the world of work. We seek to provide training opportunities and apprenticeships to enhance the employability of young people.
We are one of the main supporters of youth clubs and young activities in our beneficial area. We are committed to supporting high quality, open access provision and keeping the lights on in youth clubs around north west London.
The pressures on young people today are varied and constantly evolving. Young people continue to be affected by homelessness, teenage pregnancy and health and body image, but the threat from online sources is now equally as worrying.
