Firm Foundations

John Lyon’s Charity is supporting children and youth providers to become financially sustainable through its Firm Foundations’ Programme led by Clear Thinking Consultancy working in partnership with CVS Brent and with the support of Brent Play Association. In 2014, it supported over twenty organisations – addressing common training needs, supporting them to identify and respond to barriers to sustainability, sharing good practice and keeping them up to date with the latest local changes and policy development.

Support includes:

  • A FREE audit of your governance, infrastructure, services and the extent to which you are meeting local need. The audits require minimal preparation, take place over just one day and are followed up with a comprehensive report and face-to-face meeting to discuss the recommendations. This will give you a clear understanding of what you need to do to make your organisation more financially sustainable and to help you secure funding
  • Consultancy support to address any support needs for those organisations that have strong potential to develop and are best placed to benefit from further support
  • Invitation to three forum meetings per year that bring together all providers that have a strong focus on children and young people. You will share good practice with other providers, hear from decision makers about local and national agendas and policies that affect your work, meet funders that have a strong interest in supporting Brent providers and participate in mini-training sessions on key organisation development areas.
